Our WSBE26 research reads approval drawings as vector geometry to measure what planning rules actually depend on. What that work shows plainly is how much of the outcome is decided by the drawing itself: consistent layers, closed boundary linework and a stated scale are the difference between a sheet a system can measure and one it can only display.

None of this is new drafting practice — it is existing good practice, with a newly measurable payoff.

  • Closed geometry, not visually closed: A boundary that does not close returns nothing from the geometry operation itself — the failure mode and the computation are the same step, so the check cannot be skipped.
  • A stated scale: Every metric conversion depends on it, so an unstated or inconsistent scale invalidates every dimension derived from the sheet.
  • Layers that mean one thing: Recognition is scoped to the few entity types a check needs; layer semantics that mix boundary, structure and annotation make that scoping unreliable.
